How many words should a blog be so that readers will stay and SEO will recognize its value and rate it highly? The answer is easy.
The controversial word count argument for blogging
The answer lies somewhere between 300 and 3000 depending on the source.
My research says that All in One SEO, Yoast, Neil Patel, and Wealthy affiliate all-state 1500 words are premium targets.
However, the number 300 is often mentioned so I am going for that number today.
Words when you blog?
Most of us, when we first start a blog, struggle to write 300 words without rambling on. We then move to more and level out just under a thousand words.
It then takes awhile to break that barrier and move into the bigger numbers.
Writing a blog post with tips and answers
Remember quality over quantity

Google likes answers to a problem and some of that can be skilled at WordPress learning because we should always refer to authority in a blog.
However, better quality websites will win over badly structured sites every time. Therefore, always aim for quality first.
What other things are important to blogging?
There are many things to consider in a good blog if you want great SEO.
Headings | Start large and work down |
Paragraphs | No more than 300 words |
Internal linking | Link to your pages |
Categories | Select the appropriate Category |
Pictures | Free to use and the Alt description filled in |
Conclusion | Answer the question |
Google also likes lists and tables so you can group your subjects together.
However, the use of your keyword too often is not a good policy but it must be in your meta description and first paragraph.
Conclusion
Writing a blog must follow a structure that takes a reader from a question to an answer. Make sure you include all the above in every blog for superior SEO.

About me
My 300-word blog
This is one of the keys to rank on search engines. Balance is very important (you want to please our “Big Brother” *Google* without overwhelming your readers and make them run away from your posts). Keywords saturation is supposed to be around 3%, that piece of information alone may indicate long posts would be preferred (1,500 to 2,00 words).
Thanks for putting this table together; I consider it a great reference tool!
Thanks, Juan,
The 1500 word advice was gleaned from a few sources. In my research I find longer blogs lose my attention
and I start to skim.
However, if you really want the written information in the post there are never enough words.
It is a fine balance.

Hello there! The personal opinion of every reader is that the article or blog should be long enough to answer the question or deliver the entertainment. Not one word more or less. I personally prefer short articles, as I find myself skimming the longer ones. However, there are long articles that I’ve read word for word because they held my attention so well. My longest article was almost 1600 words. Google likes long articles, but readers – not so much.
Thanks, Cathy,
I agree with you completely. I averaged about 1500 words but one recently on
“how many words should a blog be?” was just 301.
It was simply to prove a point.

This is a very interesting article about how many words should be in blogging articles. Wealthy Affiliate teaches you that should be 1500 words or more for a premium target as you mentioned, but later in the training mentions to shorten your articles to make more blog posts instead of just one. 300 words is short and to the point of what you are trying to say anything over 300 words does sound like rambling on. How do feel about long articles that go on and one? I usually skip to subheadings to avoid the ramblings and get right to the point.
Thanks, Jannette.
When I first started blogging it was hard to write more than 300 words.
However, as I advanced it was hard to stop at 1500. I recently deliberately wrote a 301-word post
and the subject was “how many words should a post be?
It suited the topic and answered the question.
