How I Found My Traffic on Bing and What a Surprise.

How I found my traffic on Bing and what a surprise. We are all told Google is the one but Bing and Yahoo present surprising results.

Why are Bing and Yahoo important

First of all both Bing and Yahoo are major search engines like Google. There are a couple of others of less significance that we have excluded.

We put Bing and Yahoo together because the results are reported as one. This makes life a bit easier.

Another difference is that Bing has stayed with exact match Keywords in search terms whereas Google has moved to Intent based searches.

That is why the two will often not match in your reporting.

But, the people that use both services are as important and take the same actions.

How do you look up Bing results?

Bing Webmaster tools have the results you want. But, you must, first of all, include a link on your website.

Logging into Bing will provide you with a short snippet of code. If you are using WordPress go to :

  • Appearance
  • Theme File editor
  • On the Right-hand side Header
Place the code before the header
  • This then covers Bing for all your pages

When I review my monthly URL submissions I achieve about one-third on Bing and similar on Google. The other third is bad keywords that will take a long time to rank. We can't get it right every time

How I found my traffic on Bing

On my two main sites, Bing was ahead of Google by at least 20%. So if I had a thousand hits on Google I had 1200 on Bing. In fact, on one site it is 300% more on Bing because one keyword had taken off.

When you think about your traffic that is quite significant. It is treble the chance of your links working and getting results.

If you look at Google alone is very shortsighted. This is because of the greater opportunities presented when you double your traffic.

Furthermore different Keywords come into play so you can write more content around the best Keywords found. The ones searched are popular so it is time to hit them hard.

Learning more about Google

When your Bing results vary from your Google returns there may be a message in your Keyword selection. Neither engine is better, but many seem to favour Google. Thus if you are getting your exact match keywords correct but missing out on Content intent you may want to change your script.

Of course, we always need to write for readers but sometimes we forget to address the important issues.

Answering searched questions

This is sometimes a dilemma of whether to give them an answer early or keep them enthralled to the conclusion at the bottom of the page.

When the answer is simple tell them early.
What day is the Epsom Derby run? Answer; 4 June 2022 at 11:30 pm AWST

When is the Epsom derby held and why is it important?

You can explain the question over a long page with a date for each year included somewhere in the body.

The search is for information, not a quick fix.
People often search for a quick fact, it could be to to settle an argument or discussion so they only want a quick fix. They want the answer and they won't read through your long-winded blog to get a result. They simply do another search.

Yet, this can go a bit deeper and I experienced the fact this morning..

Our Government has included a tax rebate for low-income earners. During a conversation, several opposing views were put forward so we needed a resolution.

So I searched “what is the tax rebate this year?'
The answer was not a simple figure.

It went into high and low-income earners and those on low incomes were staggered depending on earnings. Thus we needed to read well into the page to get a definitive answer.
We were all wrong but that is a different matter.

How I found my traffic on Bing and what I did about it

First of all, I track every post I write. I want to really understand what is working or not.
I look at both Bing and Google results.
Then check Google against Analytics
Use a keyword tool to find page positions. (Jaaxy)
Then recording these to track improvement in Keyword selection.

Yes, it does take a bit of time but it is better than guesswork.

My Bing traffic is working better than Google.
A small disclaimer at this stage. As I write this (July 22) Google is having problems with search results. They are flipping everywhere and not at all accurate. They have stated a fix is in action.

Every time they do a Google Update it messes with results for a while and takes about a month to correct.
Google is doing this on a regular basis so wild variations should be ignored.
Bing is more stable and tends to report with greater consistency.

How I found my traffic on Bing and lots more.

There is more than traffic to consider

Both Bing and Google also report;

The number of clicksThose going to a paying proposition
Average page positionNeed to be in the top single-figure results
By time period7 days through to 12 months
Best KeywordsThat are attracting traffic and how much

These are all critical elements of discovery. Think about them and consider ways to improve your results.

Apply the one percent rule. What I mean is if you can improve each element by 1% a month you will double your results, an exciting prospect.

Conclusion

My appreciation and respect for Bing have grown since finding the influence they have on my results.

Bing is used often and getting page one results is easier than with Google. We have worked with exact match keywords for years. Changing to keep the Robots working with Artificial intelligence happy takes a bit of mental space.
