Why are my posts not being read

Why are my posts not being read? This is a common problem that all writers have yet there is a simple answer and it revolves around Seven

Google controls the blogger verse

No matter what you do, what you write or how good you are Google makes you earn a position in the list.
In fact, it takes about seven months to get any traction at all. And that is a minimum so many will take much longer.

Why so long? You may well ask. It is all about building authority and providing answers to reader requests and not so much about how well you write.

A recent trial with recognised bloggers put the seven theory to the test. They wrote fifty blogs in that time and had little success until they earned a place on the Google list.

Why are my posts not being read when my keywords are great?

Keywords matter but Google wants more

Of course, keywords bring readers to your site but Google has changed to looking at reader intent, what do they really want to ask?
Is it looking for a location?

Do they want to make a booking

Are they seeking answers to a question (affiliate sites)

Direct sales sites, including product reviews

Once you get those ducks lined up there is more.
Do you have the recognised authority to provide the answer or are you just offering lame examples that have no backing?
Then there is reader satisfaction if your blog gets more eyes than the next one you will go up the list but with no readers and down a long slippery slope.

If that was all it would be hard enough but reading time is the new format. We have gone through 3000-word blogs and down to an average of 1400 words but now it is five minutes of reading or about 800 words as the preferred length

In this case, Google wants you to be fast and efficient on both Mobile and Desktop applications. Fail this test and you will be gone back down the slope to no-mans land.

Big pictures particularly at the opening can be a culprit as well as advertising pops at the start.

The meta dilemma in grabbing readers

We all know that most traffic comes from the first three places in a search term. ( or should do anyway)

When a reader casts their eyes over these choices they are going to pick the one that relates closely to what they asked. This is a single-second decision so your Meta must get attention. If it does not grab the readers and your traffic drops then Google will re-rank you down the list.

Time is everything in blogging

Google wants to know you are a solid contributor and not a flash-in-the-pan writer. This may be a harsh reality but it weeds out all the generally low-quality products and offers only the best answers. Therefore you need to be up with the best.

Where does your answer lay?

This depends on the type of blog and what you are trying to convey.
Question; “How long is a running marathon” Answer is 42.2 Km or 26 miles.
Here the reader wants an answer and they don't want to search through a 3000-word blog to get it.

Question: Why don't more runners collapse in a marathon?
Answer: It comes down to so many small inputs like training, Food, nutrition, fluids and on and on to a long read.

For example, In this post, I answer the question early but then go on to explain the reasons for my answer. The reader then has the option of accepting the answer or finding out why I made the statement.

Blog writing needs to be short

Unlike your novel, blogging is all about satisfying attention-deficit readers that are looking for answers and will skim-read the results. Therefore it is all about Short sentences, short paragraphs and lots of Keyword style headings to grab attention and keep them on the page.

It is true that time on the page is also a ranking factor should you get them there. Therefore you really do need to add value to the search term to satisfy Google yet again.

Tracking your results

Knowing where you are is important so use both Bing webmaster tools and Google search console to keep ahead of the results.
These will show top posts and a level of traffic when it is growing you will be happy you are doing the right things.

Conclusion

There are many rules however some are more important than others. Look at all the above and find any problem areas and make the changes to get better results. However, remember the most important of all is time, you are not going to rank overnight.
