Is it worth commenting on Quora

Is it worth commenting on Quora or are you just wasting time? The real question is are you helping people and offering solutions

What is Quora anyway

Quora is a social question-and-answer network that also provides a knowledge market. Wikipedia says a little more but it does have a few sides to it

Just like YouTube, you can spend hours reading about all sorts of situations and even odd joke or two

The site is built for public participation so everything you read should not be considered science.

You are asked for an opinion

As a regular participant, I am often asked a question relating to my subject profile so I pick and choose what to answer. Many of the questions are not really worth my time but some are.
I have about 750 followers and had many thousands review my answers.

You can't post a link in your work.

This is not a selling experience and Quora will blacklist you if you put too many links in. You may get away with one or two but no more. Well with exceptions but we will get to that.

Your background is exposed

The readers on Quora can see the qualifications that were entered by you. We know that Authority is key to all posts so it is worth pumping yourself up as much as you can.

More than one answer to a question

When a question is asked anyone can provide an answer. There are quite a few talented people that respond to Quora with worthwhile answers so you do need to be pretty sharp. If your answer is considered Good readers have the opportunity to upvote you to recognise the contribution you have made.

This gives a bit of personal satisfaction and recognition.

No article writing is not hard but you must understand the rules because Google changes them regularly.

First of all, answer the question or solve the problem posed by your keyword selection.

If you have no authority borrow some because you must be able to back up what you say.

About 1000 words or a five-minute read is the new rule for blogs

Write regularly because the more you do the better you will get.

Enjoy the writing

The above shows a link to my website. However to get around the rules I have put a space in the link so it shows up as writing > I have been getting away with this for a while.

Short or long answers

Having just had a browse through some answers the answer is even although the best response I saw would have been 1500 words. a long answer, upvotes and lots of readers. The writer is a well know entrepreneur so a following is guaranteed.

Therefore you must answer the question as fully as possible to get the readers.

A channel to market

We all need a variety of ways to go to market and this is just one of those. It has some interest and a learning factor to boot so it is definitely not a waste of time.
Some questions really don't deserve an answer so you just pass them up and pick the ones that suit you. However the more you interact with Quora the more you will be called on for answers so tread your own path.

Conclusion

Quora is a learning tool.
A marketing opportunity
Increase your contact base
a place to waste a bit of time like all social media
It ticks all the boxes.
