How to Get Started in email marketing to new consumers

Do consumers still like emails?

Absolutely, and the proof is on your computer today. People you follow will continue to send you marketing emails every day. They do this because it works.

You will never know when a customer is ready to buy so being in front of them everyday will put you in first spot.

Consistency beats all other rules

How much can you make from email marketing

There are many answers to this and the most popular is $5 a month from each subscriber on your list. therefore if you have 1000 good clients you should make $5000 a month.

Realistically this really depends on what you are promoting. I always look at lifetime value to really understand my income. I market a recurring income product that pays about $60 a month and the average consumer stays well past 24 months. Therefore I know I will receive around $1500 from them.

One of these every month for 24 months would build a very healthy return.

Selling high ticket items will be less in volume but the returns greater so work your own estimates to gather a result that suits you.

How to Get Started in Email Marketing when I am new

How do I start a marketing email?

There are a couple of important things you need.

A product to sell.

Someone to sell to.

An understanding of the rules around spamming

A product to sell

You can't sell something you don't have. This is pretty obvious but I see a lot of people try to do this anyway. They gather an email list and then try to flog anything they can think of to them.

The result is generally zero sales and a lot of unsubscribers.

You need to understand what it is you have to offer and who would want to buy it before you can start selling.

A good way to come up with ideas for products is to look at what problems people are trying to solve. There are a lot of people out there with a lot of problems.

Once you have found a problem, see if you can find a solution that people are willing to pay for.

Once you have a product, it's time to find someone to sell it to.

Someone to sell to

Image of a crowd

You need to find people who want to buy what you're selling. These are called your target market or niche.

There are a lot of ways to find your target market but the easiest is to start with the people you know.

These are called your warm market.

Your warm market is made up of people who already know, like, and trust you. These are the easiest people to sell to because they are more likely to believe what you say and they are more likely to take action on your advice.

Once you have sold to your warm market, you can then start to sell to other people who might be interested in what you're selling.

You can find these people by using social media, search engines, and other online tools.

An understanding of the rules around spamming

Spamming is when you send unsolicited emails to people who have not asked for them.

This is a quick way to get your account shut down and it's also illegal in most countries.

Before you start sending out emails, you need to make sure that you have permission from the people on your list.

You can get permission by having them opt-in to your email list or by buying a list of leads that have already been permitted to be contacted by email.

Once you have permission, you need to make sure that you are sending out quality information that your subscribers will want to read.

If you do these things, you will be well on your way to a successful email marketing campaign.

Creating the best email for marketing

How to Get Started in Email Marketing

The best email for marketing is one that is focused on the needs of your target market.

Before you write your email, you need to know who you are writing it for and what they want.

Once you know this, you can create an email that will speak to their needs and help them solve their problem.

Remember to keep your email focused and to the point. People are busy and they don't have time to read along, rambling emails.

Make sure that your call to action is clear and that you make it easy for people to take the next step.

If you do these things, you will be well on your way to creating an email that gets results.

Creating a heading and subject line.

What are some good subject lines for email marketing

The best way to find this out is to test different ones and see which ones get the most clicks. Here are a few ideas:

“You won't believe what happened next…”

“I'm so excited to share this with you!”

“This made me think of you”

“You've been chosen to receive this special offer!”

“I wanted to share this with you”

Once you have a good subject line, you need to create a heading that will grab attention. The heading should be short and to the point. It should also be something that makes people want to read more.

If you are having trouble coming up with a good heading, you can always use the subject line as your heading. This is a great way to make sure that your email stands out and that people will want to read it.

Remember to keep your heading and subject line short, focus on the needs of your target market, and make it easy for readers.

Review your results. This is always necessary to understand your action

Your results will be separated into

  1. How many sent
  2. The opening numbers
  3. Clicks
  4. Drop-outs
  5. Did not open
  6. bad address

First of all, don't be put off by drop-outs. They are not your customer and it is good to keep a nice clean list.

Secondly, people don't open emails for a whole variety of reasons so just monitor the numbers.

Finally, it is the number of clicks that counts. They are the links to your sales page so essential to your success.

Every Industry has stats on what to expect so work to improve the results by making those subtle changes.

Who provides the best email service

This becomes a real balance point between cost and performance.
Some of the cheaper services include their advertising on your email which turns customers away. Others play the spam rules too close and will quickly ban you for getting a low score.

One final point is some bill on the number of mails sent and the others on the number of customers in the list. Billing on the number of emails will have you second guessing the need to pay the amount which is counter productive to what you are trying to achieve. Always go for the number of customers as you can trim any unwanted subscribers to keep your numbers down.

I have tried most of them overtime and finally settled on Constant Contact as my carrier of choice.

How to Get Started in Email Marketing

They have training and all the frills you need to run a great campaign. Cost is premium however this promotes a better return and profit. You will use this list for years to come and it will continue to return your investment many times over.

You can get a starter bonus and try for free

Constant Contact for the starting journey

However keep your leads tight and make sure they have been obtained legally.

Conclusion

If I had to choose just one marketing method it would be email. It is cheap and can be repeated as often as you want to as many as you have.

Remember that consistency beats all else so keep those offers going and watch your business grow.

This has been a very helpful and informative read. I only recently started building my email list, and never realized there were so many different types of lists, but I can now see that different types of emails can have different results.

I have not heard of Constant Contact before, so I will have a closer look at the features and service they offer. It is good to see that they have a free trial, but do they offer a free plan like some other email providers if you have a small list?

How often do you recommend that one should email your list, or does it depend on the niche and target market? Thank you.

    1. Peter Hanley

Hi Line , yes they have a free plan for a small list to get you going. As for how many emails should you send more is better with a minimum of once a month however, I believe two weeks is about right.

Therefore write out a list of topics so you have enough for at least 6 months so you are not scrambling for ideas every week. Remember it is for entertainment and education, not hard selling.

Regarding email marketing, it’s a highly popular method of internet marketing and making profit. From my experience I know that to profit from this method you need to have a list of subscribers, approx. 3.000 so you can start monetization. But even after that you need to have an effective email sequence to attract the attention of your subscribers and get them buy your product. So, it’s a highly profitable method and at the same time difficult to do in practice. Do you have any success with email marketing?

    1. Peter Hanley

I have a list of just under 10,000 after culling quite a few that were not opening the mail.

I have been doing it for many years and it is the easiest form of marketing because it takes so little time.

I have links to my blogs as well as a free trial in my business and throw in the odd affiliate link as well so along the way sales come naturally.
