Build it and they won't come. In fact they will ignore you completely unless you take the necessary marketing steps
That makes a mockery of the old saying that if you build it people will come, the internet is different
A google search that meets the requirements of the consumer is necessary.
It may originate on Social Media, from an email, a referral or even good old SEO but it must come from somewhere.
Traffic is the lifeblood of business and it takes a lot of effort to build a fast-growing base.
It starts with a keyword
Many ignore the importance of Keywords. They happily put headings that are so competitive that the chance of a first-page position is impossible.
Google now works in a new way of sorting web searches. First of all, they now use robots to do the work. Or Artificial intelligence (AI) as it is now known. So there is no arguing with them.
Next, they look for User intent.
1. Are they searching for answers
2. Intent on buying something
3. looking for a place
4. general information
If the search is for Hamburgers you will most likely be shown places to buy a burger near you. Not how to make them.
What is the best way to make a burger that may get you a recipe and how to cook a burger grilling examples?
One keyword has many meanings.
So be explicit in your offer and a bit different to everyone else.
Do you use brown or white onions in a burger? There is no doubt what they want when they search this term.
Keywords need both volumes but also low competition. You are fighting for a first-page position
How do you collect visitor names?
A capture pop is an answer where you offer them something in return for giving you their email address. A newsletter, report or something of value.
What do you do with visitors?
Do you build a nice little portfolio and keep it for a rainy day? The answer is no you need to be in constant contact with them to get sales so they keep coming back.
You have the building keep them walking through the door.
You can do this with an autoresponder, newsletter or emails. The medium isn't important but consistency is.
Checking on your clicks
I had a guy that I used for one on one training and recommended people to him in countless blogs. Unfortunately, he fell out with his host and retired. This left me in a bad position.
But I was saved because I use the WordPress plugin Pretty links.
I was able to offer a new contact by changing the pretty link that went to every post I had written. It can be found in the bar above.
Pretty links also give great traffic data and stats so useful in keeping clients.
In summary
1. You need to actively seek traffic
2. Then keep it entertained
3. Understand what your visitors are doing
4. and use analytics in the best way
