A pathway to success explained. Is there such a thing that applies to everyone? We think so and we tell you why
What is success?
Success is different for everyone but to me, I believe it is reaching a level of personal satisfaction.
It may be the mother that raises a half dozen kids into good citizens or the surfer that tackles the biggest wave.
Your success will be different to everyone else so you need to define your ultimate goal.
I am the wrong person to ask because at just short of 80 years of building businesses I still looking for the ultimate goal.
A pathway to success explained in your words
Only you know when to be satisfied with your success.
The surfer who rode the ultimate wave finds out someone else has done it better, does he then alter his view of success and restart the journey?
Or the mother that has done her job and is content to live out life in peace?
Do you have an avatar of the ultimate you?
The one you could put on your pinup board and say “that is success”
Or do you still wonder what you really want and struggle to find the answer? Like most of us who live day to day>
Can one goal satisfy you or do you need several ticked off to be comfortable?
A need to be healthy is a great start. That requires eating, sleeping and exercising as essential ingredients.
Wealth is always a target. Are you investing? Time in self-improvement, input into creative work, and investing for the future.
To be a great parent? Are you firm and consistent? Supportive and encouraging, a parent and not a friend.
An Olympic athlete. Will you do the hours of hard work, take the pain and the losses and time frame your buildup to the ultimate game?
A pathway to success explained with an easy alternative
A goal requires a lot of personal input
Nothing good comes for free. Wishing is not input and complaining takes time and achieves nothing. Therefore only concentrate on positive input towards an established goal that is possible to achieve.
Wanting to be the richest man on earth is a goal but is it possible? Elon Musk didn't think so but he made it. Now he wants to colonise Mars which to everyone but Elon would seem impossible. But Elon majors in impossible.
The result is the culmination of input
Will it take a month, year or decade to achieve the ultimate goal? Time is irrelevant unless you are like me and have a limited period of possibility.
The most important thing is not to give up. That is the only failure.
Of course, there will be changes and deviations, minor failures and small wins that all add up to the goal. It always remains consistent as long as you remain persistent.
Spitting the dummy, throwing the bat or giving in are the only failures.
A pathway to success explained means keeping your head high
Keeping your head up high
Steve Jobs is arguably one of the smartest men of the century. He changed computing and mobile telephony like no one else and the results will last forever. Yet Steve was sacked from apple as incompetent.
Elon Must took up the mantle left by Jobs yet he too was sacked from his own company. Paypal thought him a disruptive influence and moved him on.
Sam Bankman Fried had everything at FTX including a multi Billion dollar asset and is rated the pin-up boy of the crypto world. Was this the pinnacle of success? I am sure we would all love to be in that position but a short time late he has nothing and looking at a jail term.
In Australia, we have Andrew Forrest as the richest man in town, worth around $ 50 Billion in today's money. Andrew has a goal to give it all away before he dies. Yet Andrew was sacked from his first company because he was too much trouble.
A common element of achievement
All the above guys achieved ultimate success because they never gave up. Even when the chips had run out they continued to gamble because they knew what they wanted. Did luck help? Of course but you have to have skin in the game to be lucky.
However, they are the top-end warriors and far removed from the rest of us yet they all started with nothing but an idea.
They stayed on the journey to the end so my question to you is will you do the same?
Giving up is not an answer, even in the hardest moment your end result will remain clearly lit up in the future.
Things may change, systems may fail, and directions will be blocked but your stated goal never moves.
Your level of accomplishment should not be compared to others.
I was listening to a Podcast with Steve and Aiden which was very entertaining. Steve is a multi Millionaire and has done it all. He was recently at the Grand Pree in the Lamborghini tent because he was a regular customer owning a Lambo. Chatting with the guy next to him he was asked what model he had, steve replied “a Spider and this was his favourite car”, he responded and asked his new friend the model of the Lambo he had. The guy hesitated and said name a model, Steve obliged and the answer was, Got one. This went on for a while until he confessed to a stable of cars including nearly all the ones ever made.
At another time, and a true story. I was dining with some heavy hitters way above my league. They ordered a bottle of wine that was an award winner and my friend Gabby the guy ordering said” I liked this wine so much I bought a case of it. The next guy jumped up and down with excitement and said” I agree I grabbed a pallet of it”. The elderly Chinese guy, who I can't or should I say won't name, jumped in and without bragging said I just received a container of it at the wharf in Hong Kong.
Success was different for each one
Conclusion
Aim high, staying long and never giving in is the answer to achieving something that is important to you.
However, it is your journey and your expectation so let no other put their spin upon it.
